Periodicity is concerned with the trends and patterns in the physical and chemical behaviour of the elements in the periodic table. In this unit we will look at:
- The structure and nature of the periodic table
- Trends in physical properties across periods and down groups
- Trends in chemical properties across periods and down groups
- Transition metal complexes.
This unit will be assessed by a joint test along with Topic 4: Bonding.
Presentation:
You are strongly encouraged to use this in lessons, and make notes on it. Used in conjunction with the experiments and other activities it more or less contains everything you need to know. This can be viewed on most laptops, smart phones and tablets!
Experiments and Worksheets:
On The Web:
- Clearly explained videos on each part of the topic
chemguide: Comprehensive and clearly explained notes. Designed for A-Level but also great for IB
- Professionally produced videos covering most of the course. Not tailored for IB so will cover some things you don’t need, but this is often useful for context.
