Overview
The internal assessment for chemistry requires you to produce a portfolio of investigations, each of which are marked according to three criteria:
- Design: 2 x 6 marks
- Data Collection and Processing: 2 x 6 marks
- Conclusion and Evaluation: 2 x 6 marks
The best two marks for each criterion will go towards your final grade, and can be from any of your pieces of work.
You are also assessed on:
- Interpersonal skills: 6 marks
- Manipulative skills: 6 marks
This gives a total of 48 possible marks.

Uncertainty Calculations
The IB is very hot on the calculation of uncertainties. Work through the presentation here:
- Calculating Uncertainties
- This will introduce you the concept of uncertainty, and teach you how to take account of it in your calculations.
- Note: this has recently been updated to show you how to determine uncertainties of averages
